Goosehole Lane

In January 1827 the freehold lands of the late Mary Stocks were auctioned. These lands were extensive and included lot 25, various closes of land, including Goose Holes, in the occupation of Mr G. Smith. The Ordnance Survey map of 1854 shows that Goosehole Lane then was just a short lane leading north east from Common Lane (today Doncaster Road). The area was agricultural but did feature a set of foot stones to cross the beck, and a short foot path leading north west across the fields. In 1854 Goosehole Lane, as today, intersected Common Lane (Doncaster Road) where the mini roundabout exists today.

Today Goosehole Lane still exists as a public right of way, running parallel to Caddon Avenue.
