The 1854 Ordnance Survey map identifies what is now a mere footpath, as what was then Crab Tree Lane. Where Hacking Lane makes way for Trough Lane, as it did in 1854 and still does today, Crab Tree Lane led from this junction in a southerly direction, making its way past Bullsyke Well. Crab Tree Lane terminated at Crab Tree Lathe, where a pump was also located, all are now demolished.

Crab Tree Lathe was almost certainly a laithe house, a dwelling with other farm buildings, including a barn, as a single structural unit, with separate entrances for human and livestock areas.
